Common Shade maps how extreme heat harms health, income and homes across Asia, and what can be done about it. It is large on purpose. You do not need all of it: answer two questions and follow a short path.
Your path
The site in four parts
UnderstandThe web of consequences, the vicious cycles, a day in a heatwave, today’s heat, twelve cities, past heatwaves and who heat hits hardest.
ActPractical actions by setting, cooling options, paying for protection, who can act, why action stalls and who is already at work.
ToolsA week in the heat, Plan a response and Make it work together. Each opens in its own tab, so the map stays where you left it.
ReferenceHow the map works, a plain-language glossary, every link as text, and printable one-pagers for officials, partners and funders.
Running a 90-minute workshop
For a room of officials, funders or NGO staff. One screen, small groups, and decisions recorded at the end.
Leading a community group or workers’ organisation? The same 90 minutes in plain language: start from what people know, find what you can do yourselves, and agree what to ask of partners. Print the community version (opens in a new tab) ↗
Good to know
- What you type stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to us, and nothing needs an account.
- The tools share one plan: actions added anywhere on the map appear in Plan a response.
- Every person in the exercises is a composite, and every place in the simulation is hypothetical.
- Facts link to their sources. Live readings and warning bands are estimates, never official warnings.
- Every section also has a plain-text page, and many have a printable one-pager.
